We’ve been waxing chains at Big Maggy’s for five years. Now we’re taking that experience further, working with Belgian specialist Cyclowax on equipment, pre-waxed chains and ongoing waxing care.

Chain waxing isn’t something we discovered last Tuesday. We’ve spent five years offering it to Big Maggy’s customers, talking through the change from oil, preparing chains and helping riders find a maintenance routine that works.
Our work with Cyclowax builds on that foundation. It brings a dedicated chain-waxing specialist into the conversation, alongside the local workshop you can walk into with your bike and your questions.
From a new pre-waxed chain to the next refresh of one you’re already riding, the aim is continuity: a good start, clear advice and somewhere to return when it needs attention.
Meet Cyclowax.
Based in Ghent, Belgium, Cyclowax focuses on making hot chain waxing more accessible and easier to manage. Its range brings together dedicated heaters, wax, chain-handling tools and pre-waxed replacement chains.
For Big Maggy’s, that’s a natural fit: specialist equipment and products, backed by a proper conversation about your bike and how you use it.
Why go down the wax route?
Less oily mess.
Hot wax leaves a dry coating rather than a wet, oily surface. A cleaner-feeling chain is a big part of the appeal—especially when handling the bike.
Attention to friction.
Clean, properly lubricated chain internals are central to efficient running. The result depends on preparation, maintenance and riding conditions.
Care for the long run.
Keeping abrasive contamination under control can help reduce wear. Waxing is maintenance, rather than a promise that chains or cassettes last forever.
THE EQUIPMENT BEHIND THE PROCESS
More than a pot of melted wax.
Cyclowax’s Performance Wax Heater combines heating with an automated vibration cycle. The chain sits on a dedicated spool, making it easier to handle through waxing, draining and storage.
The vibration helps release fine particles and circulate wax through the links. It’s a carefully designed system that makes the waxing stage more controlled and convenient.
Equipment is only part of the story. Chain condition, initial preparation, compatibility and refitting still deserve workshop attention.

Taking the same practical approach as our Tubeless Care Plan, we’re introducing scheduled chain waxing every eight weeks, with payment spread by monthly Direct Debit. Speak to us about setting up a plan for your bike.

Eight weeks is the appointment schedule. It isn’t a wax-life guarantee.
Distance and conditions matter. Frequent riding, rain and contamination can mean your chain needs attention before its next planned visit. Contact us sooner if it needs a refresh— don’t wait for the calendar.
We’ll confirm what the plan includes, any initial preparation or replacement parts, and arrangements for additional visits before you commit.

Cyclowax offers pre-waxed chains across a range of drivetrain systems. Chains are supplied without factory grease or undergo a multi-stage degreasing process before hot waxing.
It’s a straightforward route into a waxed setup: choose the correct chain, then have sizing, drivetrain condition and fitting checked.
Tell us your groupset and number of gears. We’ll check the exact chain and connecting-link requirements, rather than treating all chains with the same speed count as interchangeable.

ALREADY HAVE A CHAIN?
Let’s look at what you’re riding.
A new pre-waxed chain isn’t the only way to begin the conversation. Bring us your existing setup and we’ll discuss whether your chain is a suitable candidate for waxing.
We’ll assess its condition and explain the preparation needed. Wax is a lubricant, not a repair for a worn chain or a tired drivetrain.
Our existing chain-waxing service: £45 per chain.
This is the standalone waxing service price, separate from purchasing a pre-waxed chain or joining the monthly plan. We’ll confirm the scope of work and any additional preparation, fitting or parts costs before proceeding.

THE BIT THAT MATTERS AFTER COLLECTION
A waxed chain still needs looking after.
There isn’t one universal interval for every rider. A dry weekend road ride and repeated wet-weather outings place different demands on your chain.
Cyclowax advises re-waxing after wet rides. Dry the chain promptly and contact us about the next step if you’re unsure. Don’t treat an eight-week booking as a reason to keep riding a chain that needs attention.

Is chain waxing new at Big Maggy’s?
No. We’ve offered chain waxing for five years. Our Cyclowax partnership is the next step: dedicated equipment, pre-waxed chain options and a more structured ongoing service.
Do I need a brand-new chain?
Not automatically. Let us assess your existing chain and drivetrain first. We’ll explain whether preparation or replacement is the sensible starting point.
Is the eight-week plan right for every rider?
The plan provides a regular appointment schedule. It doesn’t guarantee eight weeks between all maintenance. Your mileage and conditions may mean additional waxing is needed. We’ll discuss this before you join.
What is the monthly Direct Debit price?
Contact us for the current plan proposal. We’ll confirm the monthly payment, included work, initial setup and any additional charges before signup.
Can I rotate two chains?
Ask us about a two-chain routine. It may be a convenient way to keep a prepared spare available. We’ll check compatibility, connecting links and how it fits your maintenance arrangements.
Is the machine’s cycle time my appointment time?
No. Assessment, initial preparation, cooling and any removal or refitting are separate parts of the job. We’ll agree workshop timing when you book.
