Custom bike building at Big Maggy’s

CUSTOM BUILDS · BIG MAGGY’S

YOUR BIKE.
DOWN TO THE LAST DETAIL.

The one you’ve been imagining.
Let’s build it.

Road, gravel or mountain. A blank-sheet project or a carefully planned upgrade. We’ll help you bring the frame, wheels, components and finishing touches together into a bike that feels unmistakably yours.

It starts with an idea. Not a stock specification.

Perhaps you know exactly which frame you want. Perhaps there’s a set of wheels you’ve been quietly looking at for months. Or perhaps you just know how you want your next bike to feel. That’s enough to get us started.

A custom build gives us the freedom to consider the whole bike around you: your position, your riding, your preferences and your budget. The result should work as a complete package, with every choice earning its place.

Bring the ambitious wish list. Bring the questions. Bring the photograph you keep coming back to. We enjoy turning those conversations into something you can actually ride.

WHERE DO YOU WANT TO TAKE IT?

Three disciplines. Endless possibilities.

Road.

A mountain-day companion, an aero obsession or a beautifully balanced bike for your favourite roads. Let’s consider position, gearing, wheel choice and comfort alongside the performance you’re looking for.

Gravel.

Fast lanes, rough tracks or adventures with no particular hurry. We’ll work through tyre clearance, gearing, wheels and carrying options to create a build around your version of gravel riding.

Mountain.

A lively hardtail, a precise cross-country build or something that lives for the descents. Suspension, braking, wheels and contact points all become part of the same conversation.

THE MOST IMPORTANT COMPONENT IS YOU

A dream build should fit like your bike.

Before we disappear into colour choices and component weights, let’s understand your position. Frame size, cockpit dimensions, saddle choice and riding goals deserve attention from the beginning, while we still have the freedom to get the specification right.

Think beyond the frame.

The frame might start the daydream, but the rest of the build shapes the bike you’ll ride. We can explore component and wheel choices across brands, checking availability and compatibility as we develop the specification.

Wheels, tyres and the ride.

Rim depth, internal width, tyre choice and the terrain ahead. We’ll help you consider how the wheel-and-tyre combination supports the character of your build.

Gearing and control.

Your preferred groupset, suitable ratios, crank length and braking setup. We’ll work through the details so the choices suit your riding and work together.

The parts you touch.

Saddle, bars, grips, tape and pedals. These are personal choices, and some of the most important ones for enjoying time on the bike.

The finishing touches.

A coordinated finish, tidy computer mounting, bottle cages and the little details you’ll notice every time you ride. This is where the build starts feeling entirely yours.

Have components you’d like to carry over from an existing bike? Bring the details. We’ll assess their condition and compatibility before including them in the plan.

MAKE THE BUILD PART OF THE MEMORY

Don’t just collect it.
Be part of bringing it together.

A special bike deserves a special beginning.

For customers who want to get closer to their new bike, we can arrange a guided build experience with our workshop team. Spend time alongside the mechanic, see how the components come together and take part in suitable stages under their guidance.

Ask the questions you’ve always wondered about. Understand why a particular adjustment matters. Learn where to look, what to check and which jobs to leave with the workshop. You don’t need to arrive with mechanical experience.

Dedicated time, arranged around your build.

This is a separately booked experience, with dedicated mechanic time priced according to the agreed session. We’ll explain the format, duration and cost in advance, alongside your bike quotation, so you can choose how involved you’d like to be.

The workshop team manages the technical work and final checks. Your role is to enjoy the experience, learn about your bike and help create a story that starts before the first ride.

SOMETHING WORTH MARKING

A big birthday. A long-held ambition. A very good excuse.

Some purchases mark a moment. A milestone birthday, a retirement, an achievement or finally deciding it’s time for the bike you’ve wanted for years.

Pairing a custom bike with time in the workshop can make that moment feel even more personal. It becomes an experience as well as something to take home.

Planning it for someone else? Have a quiet word with us. We can discuss how to introduce the idea while leaving the rider involved in the fit and specification choices that matter.

Know your bike from the first ride.

A guided session can focus on the things you’ll find useful long after collection. We’ll agree the topics around your bike and experience level.

Everyday checks.

Get familiar with your setup, the checks to make before a ride and the changes worth bringing to our attention.

Practical care.

Talk through cleaning, drivetrain care, tyres and the maintenance routine appropriate to your components.

Help when you need it.

Understand which tasks you feel comfortable handling, what tools they need and when to call the workshop.

FROM WISH LIST TO FIRST RIDE

How we bring it together.

01 · THE CONVERSATION

Tell us the dream.

Your riding, budget, existing bike and ideas. We’ll discuss fit and establish what you want the build to achieve.

02 · THE SPECIFICATION

Work through the details.

We’ll develop the component list, check compatibility and availability, and set out pricing and expected timing before you commit.

03 · THE BUILD

Bring it to life.

Our workshop assembles and checks your bike. If you’ve chosen a guided experience, we’ll arrange your session within the build schedule.

04 · YOUR NEXT CHAPTER

Get out and enjoy it.

We’ll talk through the finished bike, its setup and ongoing care, with workshop support available as you make it your own.

A few things you might be wondering.

Do I need to know exactly what I want?

No. You can arrive with a complete specification or simply an idea of how you want to ride. Helping you work through the choices is part of the process.

Can I choose different component and wheel brands?

Absolutely—bring your preferences. We’ll explore what can be sourced and check the exact combinations for compatibility with your frame and drivetrain.

Can you build around a frame or parts I already own?

Speak to us first. We’ll need to assess the parts, condition, compatibility and work involved before agreeing the project.

Do I have to take part in the build?

Not at all. The guided build experience is an optional addition. You can leave everything with our workshop team and enjoy collecting the finished bike.

Is the guided build experience included in the bike price?

It’s separately arranged and priced to reflect the dedicated mechanic time. We’ll agree the session and explain the cost before booking it.

How long does a custom build take?

It depends on the specification, component availability and workshop schedule. We’ll discuss expected timing when preparing your quotation and keep you informed as the project develops.

LET’S MAKE IT YOURS

The next great build
starts with a conversation.

Tell us what you ride, what you’re imagining and what would make this bike special to you. We’ll put the coffee on and start working through the possibilities.
