The story of big maggys

Big Maggys is the realisation of a dream for two men, Tony Moffa and Ian Williams.  They both live on the island of Jersey and share a passion for cycling and coffee.  Living in Jersey provides the perfect back drop to experience the outdoor lifestyle, especially on two wheels.  And as many cyclists know, cycling and coffee seemingly go hand-in-hand.  The concept for Big Maggys turned into reality when they encountered Magnus Backstedt (winner of the 2004 Paris-Roubaix and stage winner of the Tour de France) and Martin McCrossan, manager of Magnus’ under 23 team ‘Sprocket Procycling’.

Magnus and Martin had already developed their unique coffee blend under the brand name ‘Magnus Maximus’, Magnus’ nick name as a professional cyclist.  Tony and Ian realised the opportunity and turned the idea of a coffee shop for cyclists, serving Magnus Maximus coffee, into reality.  They also spotted an opportunity to offer a service to commuters, by providing secure bike storage and shower facilities.

So why the name “Big Maggys”? – Magnus is Swedish, 1.93m (6”4) tall, built like a Viking and is therefore often referred to as “Big Maggy”.
