big maggy's blog

The first one

So I decided to start a blog having read the first blog that was worth reading http://blogwarr.blogspot.com/

It’s not purely a business blog which I like, it’s more about the passion for coffee! I read a great blog about wine a couple of years ago and the guy who wrote it must have been born in a grape but damned if I can find it again now that I’m in the ‘reading blogs and writing blogs mood’ !

Anyway, I thought about the blog thing for ages and people kept telling me I needed to start one because ‘its good for business’ (www.iconsultco.com!) (yep a plug that goes against what I’m about to say) or ‘it will help your clients get to know you first’ and other similar justifications. But to be frank, none of that really drives me. I know my business is good already and don’t feel the need to ram it down people’s throats. I more so want to write just because I feel like it. No particular reason, there is no sudden need to ‘let it all out’ or anything. Just feel like it plain and simple!

So (this is a long one for a first huh..) I thougt about facebook or ‘gaybook’ as I call it but that’s too ‘social networky’ and as it happens not really a blog. It seems a bit pretentious as well. having said that it is handy for getting to people! Example: I’m helping organise the town centre bike race in Jersey www.jerseytowncrit.com (Thanks Bluebox, amazing guys) and in order to get in touch with riders and possible stakeholders, facebook is perfect. It’s not though… a ‘Blog’.

So then i tried twitter. Mainly because I thought it would be fun to see what Lance (Armstrong) gets up to day to day. But now I’m bored of that and the whole ’148 charachters’ max thing. So that’s not a blog either.

Then I started thingking, so what if I use blogger.com? Well not bad but it’s another whole site to have to remember to log into. So what about MSN Spaces? That’s kind of a blog but not very accessible. You know what, it comes down to this:

If you want to blog, you need to be able to blog i.e. if you are ‘in the mood’ or something gets you thinking, you need to blog it straight away. So that’s no use if you can’t even log in from a CrackBerry or an iPhone! Blogger seems to work… we shall see.

If you see another blog on here from a ‘mobile’ you know I was right. or if you read this in 3 months time and there is no follow-up, then you know it didn’t work and it was also sh**e….

Anyway….
