Packing Up

As I type this, huddled in a corner of the hotel’s atrium (the only place I can get a half decent WiFi signal), Susan is upstairs packing her superlight suitcase to make it weigh exactly 20kgs (EasyJet rules) for our return to Jersey tomorrow. A message from the travel company earlier today confirmed our pick up time tomorrow morning at 0600. From memory, that is earlier than we get up for a 25m TT.! The three and a half hour cruise across the 180km of Moroccan one lane ‘superhighway’ to the airport in Marrakech will at least be in a Mercedes travel wagon. I am pretty sure I could get 4 people and 4 bikes in there with no problem so maybe I will convince Moffs it is a good idea as a ‘company car’ for Big Maggys. From there it is EasyJet and BA to arrive back in Jersey tomorrow evening. The return Easyjet flight will be the first time I have looked forward to travelling with the ‘Orange Order’ as it will mean I am on my way home. I don’t mean to sound as though I haven’t enjoyed being away as I am sure the rest has done me some good. I have managed to read three and a half books (one was very interesting) and have slept for an average of nine hours per night, in addition to the hour or so whilst sunbathing. We have relaxed in the Atlas mountains, ridden Mountain bikes (a kind of heavy-duty road bike with knobbly tyres and suspension – weird) and one of us fell off one, had a good look at Marrakech and then moved to the seaside to see boatbuilding, fishing and sunshine and in total I have seen four proper road bikes, but I am done now and want to go home. I have also decided that next years vacation will be to a ‘first’ world country (I am voting for Las Vegas & L.A. again) as I have been to five supposedly civilised african countries and four middle eastern and one in the Indian Ocean and I just don’t get it. I suppose I am just a holiday snob.
So for the next few hours I too will pack my stuff so it weighs in at 20 kilos (or three Lightweight Wilier bikes – order yours for next season at Tony@Big Maggys.com), get ready for dinner with a pre-dinner Mojito and enjoy my last supper in Morocco (I hope).
I am looking forward to a catch up with Moffs and Lee to find out all that I have missed over the last two weeks. Much of what has gone on has been put on their blogs and I have to admit that I have spoken with Moffs on more than a couple of occasions so I have a fair idea.
The bar opens in 30 mins and I need to pack before I enjoy my last Mojito of the ‘Off Season’. Training starts on Sunday so, like Moffs, I will be Tea Total and on a strict diet…… starting tomorrow.
