And we’re off

Day one is now complete and what a day too. Prince Michael of Kent waved us off from Kensington Palace at 0830 in front of the selected media. Next stop was McLaren for coffee & biscuits (and fruit skewers) and a look at the collection. Lunch in Twyford with the team motorhome was a chance to change out of wet clothes following several heavy showers. Pasta & sause and a choice of buns. A ride to Williams F1 (including a slight detour – thanks Garmin) for the biggest welcome of the day. Patrick Head welcomed us all & presented Nigel with a yellow jersey. The whole Williams factory turned out to meet us all and show off the collection of cars including the 1400bhp car from 1986 which had a gearstick!!
More food and the 30 miles to Cirencester was wet, dry, wet, dry then the finish was signaled by being sprayed with champagne.
Unfortunately the hotel is 15 miles from the finish and therefore tomorrows start is 15 miles from my bed. As I write at close to 11pm I realise that I should be sleeping getting prepared for another early alarm call. Tony the Mechanic is still busy preparing the bikes and cars for the morning.
I have a load of photos from today and will post some in the coming days.
On the ‘dummy’ spitting contest, Greg is currently 3 – 0 up. Punctures – one each for Greg & Leo.
And now to bed.
G’night from Gloucester.
